Don't Be Afraid of the Dork

Covered in dog hair, Obsessed with books, Wondering what it's all about. I suspect the answer is ice cream and the ocean.

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - Alan Bradley Really nicely written, engaging and charmingly British. While I was at times delighted by Flavia, I also had a really hard time completely believing in her. But it is difficult for me in general to get behind a child protagonist. My major problem was a lot of inconsistency in Flavia's smarts - she sometimes seemed eye-rollingly smart and well-read but then as the mystery moves along the author seems to keep her purposefully dense just so he doesn't have to reveal a clue until the climax. It niggled. Overall I did enjoy it.
