After Charles Dickens died halfway through writing his final novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, there was a maelstrom of speculation about whether there was any evidence about how Dicken's would have or if he even did finish more of the book. This is the central story this mystery novel revolves around. The protagonists are James Osgood and Rebecca Sand, representatives of Dickens' American publishers the Boston based Fields, Osgood and Company. Their investigation takes them to England and back and expose them to the international opium trade.
This is a good subject for a novel and overall was a fairly interesting and entertaining listen. That said it seemed a little bloated and the characters while not unlikeable were a bit stiff and unnatural. I wondered if it might have been a little tedious to read versus listening to the audio.
